Diabetes

Diabetes mellitus, commonly referred to as diabetes, is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood sugar levels resulting from defects in insulin production, insulin action, or both. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that helps regulate blood sugar levels and allows cells to use glucose for energy. There are several types of diabetes, each with its own causes, symptoms, and management strategies. A type of diabetes that develops during pregnancy, usually in the second or third trimester, due to hormonal changes and insulin resistance. Gestational diabetes increases the risk of complications during pregnancy and childbirth and may predispose both the mother and child to type 2 diabetes later in life.
