Mental Retardation ADHD

"Mental retardation" is an outdated term that is no longer used in clinical practice. The term "intellectual disability" is now preferred and is defined by significant limitations in intellectual functioning (IQ) and adaptive behavior, which manifest during the developmental period. Intellectual disability encompasses a wide range of cognitive abilities and may be associated with other developmental or physical impairments. ADHD is commonly diagnosed in childhood but can persist into adolescence and adulthood. While ADHD and intellectual disability are distinct conditions, they can co-occur in some individuals.
